fabulous frida and florals !
Fashion Plate Portraits and Fabulous Florals….A match made in Mexico.
Elizabeth St. Hilaire
2 – 8 april , 2023
Arrival on Sunday, 5 day Workshop, Depart Saturday
Our tropical location sets the stage for colorful collaged florals, and Mexico loves Frida Kahlo for her MANY self portraits and works of art inspired by the natural beauty of her country.
Join Elizabeth St. Hilaire for an all-new workshop experience ..
that combines her portraits workshop with her florals workshop. Be inspired by beloved Mexican painter Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón aka Frida! You do NOT need to know how to draw faces, Elizabeth will teach you a photographic transfer technique that works like magic in order to start with a good proportional likeness.
Portrait emphasis will be on creating an acrylic encaustic effect background, transferring your drawing directly from a photo print-out, and shading black pastel line-art by rubbing with your fingers. Add a fabulous floral crown inspired by fresh local flowers and hand-painted papers created in class through the gel printing process.
Floral collage emphasis will be on utilizing gel printed papers to develop form through light and shadow. Hand painted papers will be glued down over a basic acrylic under-painting to create impressionistic painterly collaged florals for Frida’s crown or a bouquet. Paint your own collage papers, print local leaves, learn mark making, application of gold leaf, and more!
NOTE: You may choose your own portrait subject or you may choose to create only florals, Elizabeth is teaching both subjects and techniques together. This is the ONLY venue where she will offer this special workshop combination in 2023.
